Test of Basic Aviation Skills (PCSM/TBAS)

The PCSM algorithm changed 12-29-21 at 1400, prior scores are not affected. Flying hours of 41+(new maximum) are tracked for research and not changed to avoid potential negative effects. Flying hour updates with LESS than 41 hours and a test/re-test on TBAS or AFOQT are scored using the new algorithm.

PCSM is an index that quantifies a pilot candidate's aptitude for success at Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT).

PCSM PROGRAM OFFICE'S MISSION:  To provide the UPT selection boards with data to make the most informed decisions on UFT candidates.

 

 
Factors Contributing to a PCSM Score

PCSM takes into account several measurements associated with success at UPT and combines them into one measurement.

The TBAS generates 9 measurements of pilot aptitude considering these main areas
  • Cognitive - Short Term Memory
  • Psychomotor Scores - Hand/Eye Coordination
